現実にはありえないことを表現することを仮定法とよぶ。

仮定法は原則、助動詞の過去形を用いて表現する。

■仮定法過去

現在のありえないこと→過去形

If S + 動詞の過去形, S + would(should/could/might) + 動詞の原形

（例）If I had money, I would buy the PC.

■仮定法過去完了

過去のありえないこと→過去完了形

If S + had + 過去分詞, S + would(should/could/might) + have + 過去分詞

（例）If I had had money, I would have bough the PC.
